About the Artwork
“Stan was very very devoted to his wife when she died in July 2017. It was a huge loss. I knew them well when I dropped off my painting initially as a gift to STAN. He said his wife liked it so much that it was not to be put at work, but in their house. at one time I had dated their daughter briefly he and Steve were also good friends I had to call and tell him of the news of Steve’s passing. He was surprised because Steve was so young.” - Bob Womack
Stan Lee, the legendary comic book writer and editor, was one of the most influential figures in the history of art. Born in 1922 in New York City, Lee grew up to become the co-creator of some of the most iconic characters in comic book history, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. His contributions to the art form have had a lasting impact on popular culture and have earned him a place in the pantheon of great American artists.
One of Lee's most significant contributions to art was his role in popularizing the superhero genre. He transformed comic books from a niche interest into a mainstream form of entertainment by creating relatable characters with complex personalities and struggles. Lee's heroes were flawed and vulnerable, and their stories dealt with social and political issues in a way that resonated with readers of all ages. His work inspired a generation of artists and writers to explore the potential of comics as a serious form of artistic expression.
